High-Volume Accounts & Traffic Bursts
Linkly is designed to handle high traffic loads reliably. This article explains our rate limits, DDoS protection, and how to work with us when you need to send large bursts of traffic.
Rate Limits & DDoS Protection
To protect against DDoS attacks and ensure service reliability for all customers, Linkly enforces a rate limit of 20 requests per second per IP address.
This limit is designed to handle normal traffic patterns, including spikes from popular campaigns. However, if you're planning to send a large burst of traffic (such as from an SMS blast), you may need to coordinate with our team.
SMS Blasts & Large-Scale Traffic
We have many customers who run large-scale SMS marketing campaigns that generate significant traffic spikes. Here's how we recommend handling these:
Stagger Your Sends
For SMS blasts, we generally recommend staggering your sends over a few minutes rather than sending everything at once. This reduces the risk of hitting rate limits and ensures a smooth experience for all recipients.
Coordinate With Us
For very large campaigns, we prefer to work with you directly:
- Contact us via the support widget before your campaign to let us know your expected traffic volume and timing.
- We can monitor closely during your campaign to ensure everything runs smoothly.
- We can deploy extra capacity at a moment's notice if necessary.
Bulk Link Generation
If you need to create links in bulk, our Link Shortening API supports creating up to 1000 links in a single request by sending an array of link objects.
Simply wrap your link requests in a JSON array:
[
{"workspace_id": "123", "url": "https://example.com/page1", "name": "Link 1"},
{"workspace_id": "123", "url": "https://example.com/page2", "name": "Link 2"}
]
Large requests can take up to 60 seconds to process. If you're creating thousands of links, consider breaking them into batches of 1000.
See the Link Shortening API documentation for full details.
Use Your Own Custom Domain
For high-volume accounts, we recommend using your own custom domain rather than Linkly's shared domains. This provides better performance and ensures your traffic is isolated from other users.
Payment Requirements
Before running a high-volume campaign, please ensure you have a valid payment card on file that we can charge. This allows us to provision additional capacity and ensures uninterrupted service during your campaign.
You can update your payment details in Settings → Billing or see our guide on adjusting billing details.
Working With Our Team
When planning a high-volume campaign, please reach out via the support widget with the following information:
- Expected traffic volume (approximate number of clicks)
- Timing (when you plan to send)
- Traffic pattern (all at once, staggered over minutes/hours)
- Promotion method (SMS, email, social media, etc.)
This helps us prepare and ensures the best possible experience for your campaign.
Contact Support
To coordinate a high-volume campaign or discuss your requirements, use the support widget in the bottom-right corner of the Linkly dashboard.
